Mirka® Galaxy is a new kind of high technology abrasive. It combines effectiveness with long use life, thanks to a new kind of self-sharpening ceramic grain, a clogging resistant coating and the new Multifit hole configuration.
What is the Mirka Galaxy all about? Convenience. When engineering the Galaxy, we wanted to make a true multi-purpose abrasive that makes it possible to get on the job and continue with no distractions. The Galaxy manages this with new cutting edge technology that combines some of Mirka's best innovative thinking.
To continue cutting, an abrasive must remain as sharp as possible, for as long as possible. The Mirka Galaxy manages this with special ceramic grains, which we call self-sharpening. Every time the edge of an abrasive grain on the Galaxy breaks off, it simply forms new edges, meaning that the Galaxy continues cutting without dulling. For one, this means it is a true long-life abrasive, meaning you get the best out of every Galaxy you take from its packaging. And secondly, this means a consistent scratch pattern that makes any following step easier, whether you're moving to a finer grit or polishing it out.
As well as dulling, one of the factors that reduce an abrasive's service life is clogging. The abrasive becomes saturated with removed material, gradually rendering it useless. For the Mirka Galaxy, we chose a special, clogging resisting coating, that works to repel dust and helps direct material into the dust extraction system. That way the dust is simply removed from the picture, helping you and the ceramic grains to continue the job without distractions.
To make the Galaxy even easier to use, it utilizes Mirka's new Multifit multihole system. Multifit is engineered to fit the pad of any machine, as it has the correct amount of holes without compromising its structural integrity. A Mirka Multifit abrasive is always correctly placed, without even looking, as enough of its 50 dust extraction holes are always positioned right on any pad.
The holes of a Multifit abrasive only take up 6% of the surface area, and their size targets the balance of dust removal, sanding power and durability. Between the hole segments, Multifit features specific grip areas to improve sanding efficiency and abrasive life.
